As armed men commit 13 robberies at a time, Chicago alderman says ‘root causes’ must be addressed – CWB Chicago

"One might suggest to (Ald. Daniel La Spata) that the reason there are so many armed robberies is not because there are legions of violent, underserved Chicagoans roaming the streets but, rather, that police simply aren’t arresting the very small handful of violent people who keep committing 13 or 14 robberies at a time."

Is there one principal in CPS like the true story of Joe Clark in the 1989 movie Lean on Me? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097722/ Look at the kids in the movie from 1989 and fast forward to 2023. It became worse. No family structure. Early pregnancy-single parent household-no respect for authority. What would happen to Joe Clark today if he tried that in CPS? I’m sure there are many in CPS who would like to try but fear some sort of retribution. Don’t have a clue as to what since it’s almost impossible to fire anyone there. If one person would try and… Read more »

I’m trying to imagine what the ‘rules’ actually allow a CPD officer to do. We know that everyone’s agreed that the ‘rules’ prohibit officers from pursuing known criminals in a car chase. On foot, too, in lots of circumstances, as I recall. So, if a Chicago police officer happens to be near someone when a group of armed masked thieves are robbing them, and the armed masked thieves don’t try to run or drive away, the officer can try to arrest them. And we’re going to fix the armed robbery problem by continuing to follow these ‘rules,’ and by opening… Read more »

Root Cause is this generation was cheated out of an education. The Taxpayers were cheated out of millions of dollars in something they paid for and never got. We now have a generation of criminals, with no other job skills. This is going to be a long hangover. Thank you, CPS, and CTU for everything you have done to the Chitty.

We’ve got another idiot on the root cause bandwagon! I can’t wait to read the results that the violence task force comes back with in 30 years. “After careful consideration and much time wasting, we have identified the cause of violence to be….white men!”

Chicago deserves its crime with morons like this in charge.

They say that, but the communities from which much of the violence originates are theirs. Root cause? No family unit. No fathers. No values. No respect for others. No respect for an education. No standards. No expectations. Their plight is the fault of all others – never their own.

Honestly, all they need are some mirrors.

They are just silly kids playing silly games. All it takes are more social workers to help them understand their anger.

I’m having difficulty understanding how “root causes” put a weapon in a criminal’s hand, aim, and fire it.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
