Paul Vallas: How Illinois can respond to the migrant crisis before it overwhelms our communities – Chicago Tribune*

Migrants prepare to move their personal belongings and bedding across a busy street from the 8th District police station on West 63rd Street in Chicago on Sept. 12, 2023. The move was prompted by the need to clean the sidewalk area around the outside of the station."(Mayor Brandon) Johnson’s latest proposal to house immigrant families in tent camps is not only absurd but also cruel. This idea is a disgrace and is reminiscent of the 'Hoovervilles' or shantytowns named after President Herbert Hoover which sprung up during the Great Depression to house the homeless in poor and demeaning living conditions."

“Johnsonvilles” I love it. And how about this solution for these criminal illegal aliens: Mass Deportation?

Paul Vallas is an idiot. In proof of which he writes (another) sophomoric and contradictory opinion piece, full of wish-sandwich pollyannish nonsense, built upon his contention that Chicago’s ‘migrant’ crisis results from: “The federal government’s abject failure to ….. rein in select border states that irresponsibly bus immigrants to sanctuary cities….” Those would be states in which the Federal Guvmn’t allows tens of thousands of people to cross the border illegally each week, who are then declared ‘legal’ asylum seekers, or ‘migrants,’ or ‘economic refuges’ – or whatever. Because they know they can get a bus ride to Chicago, or… Read more »

There’s headwinds for massive crash in the economy coming soon, likely in the next year or two. Those tents really will be Hoovervilles for illegals and citizens alike. Just imagine the backlash when unemployment rate is 10% in Chicago and the government is paying tens of millions to house illegal immigrants in tents.

IMNSHO housing these illegals in tent camps is a *great* idea… maybe when word gets out to other potential illegal immigrants that they won’t be received with nice apartments and such, it will discourage them from infesting this country. I’d also put all illegals on a strict diet of water and miitary K-rations. Better yet, house all these illegals in tent encampments in remote rural areas, the US has plenty of vacant federal land…

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
