Pritzker says rental assistance funding diverted to help pay for migrant care – Center Square

State Rep. David Friess said the plan to divert taxpayer funds intended for legal residents who need support is not the right move. "We have citizens in this state that need that assistance. Obviously, that's why this program is in place," Friess said. "Unfortunately, our borders are wide open." It's anticipated city and state taxpayer funds could exceed $500 million to care for the incoming non-citizens.

Question? Do the potential recipients of rental assistance know they are not getting any money since the money has been “Diverted” to migrant care? Will they get notification that this is why they are not getting anything? Best guess is they will get a letter or email stating that funds are not available.

Seems like JB is ticking off more and more people in Illinois and may try to enter the race for president or maybe VP at the last moment. He probably thinks his days as governor may come to an end. Everything lately seems to be secretive with him. As president he may be able to figure out on how to bail out the pension fiasco and allocate some funds. Who knows what’s in a politician mind.

As individual citizens, we collectively outsource basic functions, such or security of our borders, to our government. We historically pay them to perform this responsibility with our taxes. If our government, whether city, state or federal chooses not to provide the basic functions we paid them to provide (which they did successfully for many decades), that is a failure on their part. They should fix their failure (ie. secure the border and send the illegals back home) rather than demand more taxes be collected. Using that lens, I am fine with taking from another fund to pay for this government… Read more »

If mainstream media doesn’t pick up this story it is a case of gross negligence. The marginalized communities of legal citizens should be screaming from the rooftops and calling for Pritzker’s head. All this self-righteous buffoon has done is degrade society by expanding gambling and legalizing dope, which he taxes excessively and then gives the money to illegal immigrants.

The failure by regular Illinois media to challenge Pritzker on anything is a scandal in itself.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
