Manteno EV battery plant promises 2,600 jobs. But far-right legislators are stoking fears over Chinese influence. – Chicago Tribune/MSN

The controversy surrounding the plant in Manteno echoes one that ensued following Gotion’s earlier announced plans for a $2.4 billion electric vehicle battery plant in Big Rapids, Michigan. “I really feel that all of you that think it is OK to have a Communist Chinese company here did not do your homework,” Manteno resident Amelia Cahill said at a recent village board meeting. “You are willing to jeopardize the health of everybody in Manteno and also surrounding areas.”

Why is it that anyone who disagrees with Pritzker and some of his ludicrous policies is automatically called a far right extremist by the media? There are many legitimate questions about this deal that concerned citizens are asking. They are not necessarily “right wingers” as if right wingers are a bunch of deplorables. Can’t anyone have an honest opinion without being labeled one way or another? And just because you’re a Republican legislator you’re part of an extremist agenda?

Wally, it’s the never-ending strategy of media and political leftists to label anything they don’t like as “far right,” “right wing” or “MAGA.” This column is just another disgraceful example. The Tribune is trash.

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
