Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Major weapons charge criminals should receive the death penalty so longer prison sentences are an alternative to execution. Reduction in gun violence isnt the point; its about the victims. Tom Paines Ghost makes a lot of sense up to a point. Certainly prison time is about punishing the victim and getting them off the streets, However “Major weapons charge criminals should receive the death penalty so longer prison sentences are an alternative to execution” is not good common sense or justice. Non parole Life imprisonment would be appropriate for murder cases and severe sentences of 10 years or more for violent crimes using weapons would not be out of line
