President Joe Biden’s administration announced a plan Thursday that will require all but a handful of cities to completely remove water pipes with brain-damaging lead within 10 years. Chicago is getting a pass because it has such an unusually high number of lead service lines – more than 400,000. That’s by far, the most lead service lines of any city in the country.
What’s wrong with this picture?—-8 city Water Dept workers standing around doing nothing with maybe 1 guy operating the excavator? Could this possibly be the reason city is projecting to spend $22,500 per lead water service line replacement while NYC, for example, is projecting replacing lead water service line at $8,000 to $10,000?….and pols and press are silent
Was thinking the same thing. My friend in Rockford needed the water shutoff in the front yard to be replaced last year. At least 7 or 8 city employees were there to dig a hole with 3 or 4 trucks/excavator and only 1 was digging. They were there for hours since I had to be there because my friend was in Arizona. They had to come back the next spring to finish but did not get it done. Again in June they put dirt on top of the gravel with 5 or 6 guys standing around. One guys job and… Read more »

If you get more than 2 hours of meaningful work from these public works employees in a day, that’s a hard day.
There’s a couple more workwrs in their trucks and one guy is running personal errands while on the clock…..
