Pritzker rejects toxic migrant shelter site in Brighton Park – WBEZ (Chicago)

Tents can be seen at a site where the state had planned to set up winterized base camps to house up to 1,500 migrants at South California Avenue and West 38th Street in Brighton Park on the Southwest Side.Gov. JB Pritzker said in a prepared release, "We will not proceed with housing families on a site where serious environmental concerns are still present." The release explain, "Given the significant time required to conduct additional sampling, to process and analyze results, and to implement corresponding further remediation, the state will work with the city to identify alternate shelter options."

It’s also going to be interesting if CTU/Brandon’s crew followed proper environmental/remediation protocol? I believe, your not supposed to have workers excavating, installing utilities, etc without FIRST having approved environmental report, especially this site with known history of hazardous soils. Are all those city CDOT, Street & San, Water Dept workers be able to make legal claims they where exposed to hazardous waste???…were just getting going folks. I’m sure the lawyers are circling like vultures$$$$

Total waste of time and LOTS of money. Total boondoggle and funneling of more tax payer money to cronies and pals. If a private business conducted itself this way, moved forward with a project this expensive that didn’t have all the I’s doted and T’s crossed…somebody would be fired. But in Illinois and most of our government, there is no accountability for this sort of irresponsible crap.

As a Democrat who wants to see accountability, irrespective of party, I’d like to see Kwame Raoul investigate everything about this. Selection of the vendor, and disposition of the $30M contract. Why were city trucks + workers on site, if a contract for construction was signed? Why did Brandon Johnson ignore existing environmental disclosures that prevented all previous sales $90k monthly lease — is it still active, and who negotiated the rate? Lot selection — why were abandoned buildings that were offered for free declined? How much money was wasted on this specific location? Who, specifically, has benefited from this… Read more »

Too bad for JB. I heard he was all set to donate a couple of toilets he wasn’t using to the shelter. Tax write-off, you know.

I thought I heard that these migrant shelters were originally the state’s idea – coming from JB’s office to begin with – because Brandon showed no initiative to remove them from O’Hare and the police stations, and JB was getting worked up about it. My guess is that the head of the IEPA, most assuredly a JB pick, got the go ahead to kill the project after the bad PR surrounding the site. Sure, somehow these sycophants surrounding JB’s thought it sounded like a good idea at the time, but obviously, constructing refugee camps in the middle of the city… Read more »

Don’t forget that it’s Pritzker’s goal to have a monumental DNC Convention that he can use to leverage his future ambitions. O’hare, where visitors fly in, and other public places do not fit the mold of a fully “assimilated happy migrant family” to brag to the liberal fish wraps and Democrat party supporting media. Pritzker needs the numbers and a few cherry picked example but the general overall population needs hidden.

You are correct and to me the only reason he,pulled the plug was because of the DNC coming to Chicago, he didn’t want his future plans tarnished.

This is rich, the dem machine/ state on behalf of CTU kills Invest In Kids which would help have helped keep Catholic schools open and there’s an ocean of empty space for migrants at empty CPS schools that apparently CTU opposes being used for migrant shelter?…But–“The governor’s office said it requested alternate sites from the city — and that the state is working with the Archdiocese of Chicago to explore other options.” Or in other words JB’s asking Archdiocese to use a lot of empty Catholic schools as migrant shelters. WOW!!!!

What a clown! The guy doesn’t even have enough self discipline to get a haircut.

From 6:47: “The state of Illinois went into a contract with Garter World building on this site knowing full well that assessments were being um uh of [ sic ] handled, and and keep in mind whether it’s brick and mortar spots, base camps [ sic ]. “

Don’t be deceived by this apparent rift between (D)’s…

‘Who’ got paid for all the work done at this site…?

‘Who’ are their connections to the (D) government in IL…?

‘Who’ do they donate to…?

‘Who’ benefitted from all the work done so far…?

Follow the $$ trail…

Looks like Brandon is going to be a sacrificial lamb for Pritzker! Dirty!

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
