Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. A bit off topic but, during the few years I worked in the CPS the teachers union negotiated a contract provision acknowledging stress as a reason to use a sick day. Once that happened, a group of teachers began to take 1/2 days off for “stress”. You could take as many as twenty 1/2 days. Those who did always took sunny afternoons and always had tennis racquets or golf clubs in their cars.
Well, it seems they knew how to reduce stress at least. Some cultures routinely have people taking 2-hour lunches sanctioned by the local culture. That ought to be a stress reducer, too. The American way is for many (more?) people to die of stress induced health problems. Now, ultimately which is the smarter pathway here?
I want state support of Illinois colleges and universities defunded over a period of 5 years. Seriously, does anybody still believe the Illinois taxpayer is getting his money’s worth from higher level public education?
Does this mean adding 5 days for professors & staff $costs$ to cover sick days to already rediculous college costs?
These students will find out what true misery is when they graduate with the typically useless degree and still have to pay off their loans.
No days off from loan payments!

Yeah, it’s all about work or study ethic, and it seems some of these college students don’t have it. Will they magically acquire a work ethic when they start careers out of college? Unfortunately, some of these grads will interview well enough to fake out their prospective employers. On a related note, are you surprised an IL State Senator is sponsoring the bill?
Yeah, these kids are just plain soft. Drop and give me 20!
