Chicago Bears President Kevin Warren says building a ‘magnificent’ downtown stadium remains a possibility – Chicago Tribune/MSN

Kevin Warren still dreams of the possibility of building a new stadium for the Chicago Bears in the heart of the city. Fueled by a combination of imagination and think-big ambition, the team president and CEO isn’t yet letting that dream die. “I strongly believe Chicago is the finest city in all of the world. Very rarely do you get an opportunity to have such a beautiful downtown with a vibrant business community, with an absolutely beautiful lake and the energy that goes along.”

I’d suggest he focus on building a magnificent team, once they’ve accomplished that, maybe some foolish city will be willing to assist in building a stadium.

Gladiator games fighting over buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken would draw substantial crowds.

Well Chicagoland the Lions moved back downtown after the Silverdome so it’s possible. They even surprised me with their record this year. My feeling is that a winning team covers alot of negatives. When Old Joe was a kid the Lions played outside in Tiger Stadium. Yep, a baseball park with 2 goalposts added!

I think somewhere between State and Michigan streets around the Mag Mile would be fine since it will be a wasteland soon if crime is not curtailed.

If the team president truly “strongly believes” that Chicago is the greatest city in the world, he should be given a brain scan and begin treatment for his delusional issues. I doubt this guy could run a lemonade stand. Fans should boycott the team until their on field performance at least approaches mediocrity.

Nice speech. But what he should have said is we are up the creek without a paddle. The City is broke. The state is broke, The City alone is trying to find over $300 million to give to illegal aliens. The State is begging the feds for financial help for the illegals also. There is no one to pay for any infrastructure. There is no plan for what to do with Soldier Field if we left there. Metra and the CTA are about to drive over a financial cliff in 18 months with no financial help in sight A different… Read more »

The biggest fight right now is with the assessor’s office and the school districts who think they can get in on the action. The taxes are outrageous what they are trying to make the Bears pay. I wouldn’t be surprised, with all this hemming and hawing, if the Bears are actually just f’in around, and are really considering leaving Illinois. Because none of what they’re doing makes much sense. One day it’s Arl. Hts., the next day it’s Naperville, then they’re back downtown again, then back in Arl. Hts. When the real story behind the scenes is that George “[mom]… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
