Four people were shot and injured last week in what Dolton police have only described as “an incident that came into Dolton from somewhere else.” Torrey Lewis, 30, was wearing an ankle monitor when police found him bleeding but alive behind the wheel of a stolen car that came to a stop in an auto parts store parking lot, an assault rifle and handgun were on the seat next to him. Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said his calls to clamp down on the use of electronic monitoring in violent cases have gone unheard by lawmakers.

When one of are great Illinois politicians become a victim by a 2,3,4 time loser like a crime like this mentioned in the above article nothing is going to change. It seems like the innocent people of Illinois are the bait for Springfield’s devious laws.
That still wouldn’t be enough to change them. Right now this is all just petty street crime. Car jacking, muggings, assaults and smash and grabs affect quality of life but it’s all just petty street criminal stuff. Our new policies towards petty street crime are very, very popular among the high crime constituencies in the state. But we really have to look back in time to see what the future holds. We had a soft on crime era during the 70’s and 80’s and 90’s, before the tough on crime bills of the early 90’s incarcerated people in record numbers.… Read more »
Please explain “ petty street crimes “ to the flight attendant knocked senseless on Michigan Avenue in broad daylight. Please explain the same to the woman that had her head stomped upon on the CTA train. Please explain how much worse crime has to get to the thousands of victims of violent assaults every year in IL.
I don’t mean to downplay the horrific nature of these crimes or lessen their atrociousness. But a homeless guy whacking that flight attendant in the face is random nasty awful crime but it’s not the same level as, according to Wikipedia, “The Ripper Crew or the Chicago Rippers was an organized crime group of serial killers, cannibals, rapists, and necrophiles. The group composed of Robin Gecht and three associates: Edward Spreitzer, and brothers Andrew and Thomas Kokoraleis.They were suspected in the murders of 17 women in Illinois in 1981 and 1982.” What I’m saying is that all crime is bad.… Read more »
