Plethora of subsidies which have been going on for a long time. This is not about kick starting a new development, but more about putting a dent in an industry politicians don’t like. Who covers maintenance costs of EV stations? Do these charging stations make money on their own? If not, what is the likelihood they will survive w/o continued subsides which includes exemptions. The EV buses are a bad idea. Just more money shifted from hydrocarbon industry to EV. The meaning of “fast” is stretched greatly. Sure Con(job) Ed will continue to support all the public money going into… Read more »

Chicago Fire Dept apparently has only two functioning tower trucks, one on south-side, one on north-side, with the other ten tower trucks not operational as rescue towers. We don’t need EV stations. We need CPD properly equipped to fight and contain fires occurring above 3rd floor. Most Chicagoans probably have no idea how under-equipped our CFD firehouses truly are. Ditto for CFD ambulance crews which apparently are both significantly understaffed, and so overwhelmed by service-calls. Having a heart attack in Chicago is now a very risky proposition from get-go, where the CFD ambulance may show-up, but quite tardy. Many CFD… Read more »

Illinois always finds a way to piss away money….
EV’s will hit the “end of the road” faster than expected.

To put things in perspective, there are +4.6M registered cars in IL. So EV’s are 2% of cars in IL. Think about this EV taxpayer expense as you navigate potholes in IL!

What percentage of those EV’s purchased last year were subsidized by government programs trying to prop up EV’s? The EV market is drying up. Nobody wants the stupid things. The unsold inventory will end up hidden away so the public doesn’t see the epic failure the greenies have been. Another Biden failure.

I read recently that Ford lost over $60K on each EV they sold…

Not a very good business model for success…

That’s why 50% of Ford dealers have withdrawn from the EV program…

Here’s another reason to look at Gotion and the smart cars the batteries go into. Are the “smart cars gathering information?

Here’s another problem with EV’s. The cost for tires are very expensive and can wear out quickly. If you have a Tesla you could spend just over $2K for tires depending on model.

Also even with a fast charger how long does it take to charge an EV?

Likewise, the impact on roads is greater. IL SOS charges an additional annual registration fee, but this still far short vs the taxes collected in fuel. EV’s are heavier than ICE counterparts, they should pay higher road taxes.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
