Why are Americans becoming more stupid? Our entire education system needs a revolution. – Unheard

https://unherd.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/GettyImages-1181819032.jpg "In some cases, the defence of failure is breathtaking. Blue states such as Illinois have worked to all but eliminate charters, even as the Land of Lincoln boasts 53 schools where not one student can do grade-level math and 30 where none can do so in English. These schools are overwhelmingly in Chicago, where a significant increase in spending per student since 2019 seems to have made no impact. Yet Chicago’s failures are wholly representative.

Stoned, stupid and compliant makes for an easily governed populace.

Get back to learning the basics, reading and
Simple Math. The student can then at least
Gain some decent employment later.
Then teach some basic history, all history,
Civics.
The current teaching is lacking in many
Ways and unless changes are made these
Kids are in for a world of hurt.
Parents be parents or stop having kids,
Take care and raise them or the prison
System will do it for you.

The K-12 school choice movement is rapidly growing across the country, and most states are expanding already existing options for students and parents. Illinois is the only state reversing earlier gains. Time will tell, but I predict that Illinois will become less attractive and competitive as a destination for firms and their workers at least in part due to its poor public education. For more information, check out EdChoice’s just-released 2024 edition of “The ABCs of School Choice”, which documents K-12 school choice activities by state.

Americans aren’t becoming more stupid. This is some stupid Zero Hedge doom garbage. There’s plenty of evidence to the contrary. It’s known as the Flynn effect after researcher James Flynn.

I disagree, America HAS become more stupid. We’ve imported hordes of poor uneducated third worlders, and now their kids are half of all children under the age 18, and a majority of students in many districts across the country. So yes, importing a less educated population, that cares little for public education or education at all, is inevitably going to lead to lower test scores. Immigrants of the past built the private relgious schools that educated nearly everyone, before the public schools took over. Now they show up and say “Gimme free breakfast and lunch and a chromebook I can… Read more »

Maybe it has finally become impossible to hide the depth of the failure of public education and the education establishment. Will we stop listening to the excuses and force out the destructive ideas that have infected schools for decades?

A student needs to be motivated, in my case I went to private schools, and my father said that if I didn’t do well he would send me to the public school. that was motivation

Chicago Teachers Union contract demands are totally divorced from reality – Wirepoints

Details emerging about Chicago Teachers Union’s upcoming contract show just how divorced its demands, both extreme and expensive, are from the reality at Chicago schools. It’s not just about massive salary increases, but also about money for migrant students, climate initiatives, abortions and gender-affirming care. About blocking parental notification. Count on CTU’s demands to veer further from reality until the public finally says no.

Gov. Pritzker’s ‘ethics reform’ eliminates competitive elections and choice for voters – Wirepoints on AM 560 Chicago’s Morning Answer

Ted joined Dan and Amy to talk about a new law passed by the Democratic supermajority and signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker that results in brazen election interference, keeping Republicans off ballots; about a referendum that tests the waters for a renewed progressive income tax hike; about how the Parental Notification referendum question was knocked off the ballot; and why laws like that pass so easily.

Chicago needs more champions of literacy like Willie Wilson – Wirepoints

It’s rare to see city leaders in Chicago take an open, unabashed stance on the collapse of literacy. To complain is deemed as too political, too racist or too anti-public schools. So it’s refreshing to see Willie Wilson, a successful businessman and leader of the black community, call for a literacy initiative “with the goal of getting 100% of Black students reading at grade level.”
