Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Article is behind a paywall and I have not found a liberated copy. The bill is described at https://legiscan.com/IL/bill/SB2705/2023 . Last activity was in January.
UPDATE: Here’s a Tribune article saying that the Illinois Pollution Control Board “unveiled regulations” setting limits for a couple of these chemicals. Apparently the regulations are “proposed,” not yet “adopted.” There is no mention of the Senate bill, which is a complementary approach.
Bills like this are a double-edged sword for Democrats. Yes, these forever chemicals are bad for public health because they reduce fertility, reduce virility, and are likely a contributing cause to the trans-insanity in our culture. But on the other hand, Democrats voters are the result of reduced fertility, reduced virility, and the trans-insanity! A bill like his could help rid us of the Democrat party forever!
