‘Shockingly low turnout’ during Tuesday’s primary election in Chicago – Chicago Sun-Times

By the end of the night, turnout had reached 22.56%, out of about 1.5 million registered voters. Part of the reason comes down to the presidential race at the top of the ballot, said Max Bever, director of public information for the election board. "We see low turnout when there is not much competition at the top of the ballot. And this year, we are also seeing a rematch, which can be tough for voters."

Voting should be on a weekend when most people are not working or commuting to and from work and then have to stand in line or even take a few hours off from work to vote. This would be more convenient for many and turnout should be larger.
Paper ballots only unless you are handicapped by verification and all ballots must arrive by the close of voting day. Make sure to mail at least a few days earlier and the post office should consider the ballots as priority mail or special delivery.

The bigger story with BCH is ‘new machine’ progressives planned on a low voter turnout to try a sneak BCH through in a primary, because that’s how they got similar tax referendums past in places like LA, and despite CTU spending $400gs in union dues and getting their army out to work the streets they took a face plant….I’m hoping Burke… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
