Illinois bill would require auto insurance rates to be determined by driving habits – WTVO (Rockford)

The average cost of full-coverage car insurance in Illinois rose from $1,806 to $2,310 in the last year, according to Bankrate.com.

Hard to believe that the government has to tell insurance companies how to set rates so that they can make money. This should be a free enterprise decision; not a government requirement.

It should be illegal to design cars transmitting data for resale to anyone. Age, geography, density of traffic, hot/cold climate, type of car, proximity to high crime areas impact driving records, they should be factored in. This is more big brother overreach.

Insurance isn’t based just on your driving habits, but rather, the habits of your neighbors too, who are often far worse drivers and will crash into you with no insurance or substandard insurance…
