The Chicago Teachers Union Plays Hooky – Wirepoints in the Wall Street Journal*
The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board cited Wirepoints’ analysis of Chicago student proficiency data in their latest piece condemning the Chicago Teachers Union’s outrageous contract demands…all while a vast majority of Chicago’s children graduate unable to read at grade level.
We incessantly ask the kids about their mental health, have sessions with them for the purpose of learning good mental health strategies, offer no strategies or encouragement to use self-discipline, perseverance, or courage…. and then the powers that be are shocked in the explosion of students claiming to have mental health issues. I’m in theory against the 5 mental health days but I’m going to use them. I take my son out of school on the SEL focused days and we do fun stuff, like go to Six Flags, Dave & Busters, hiking in the forest preserve, camping, etc.
Look at you, problem solving instead of just complaining.
You could follow the example of a few educators that I worked with and conveniently schedule the day off after a long holiday weekend/ break.
