Illinois Tollway workers fight to save jobs amid proposed cuts – NBC5 (Chicago)

The tollway agency announced a plan back in March to lay off 147 workers. The news came as the union continues negotiating for a new contract.

Retrain those staff to work in the iPass contact center to sell iPass, answer questions from customers and deal with billing issues. If they don’t want to do that, fill pot holes…but collecting tolls is over.

There’s a glut of employee’s they should have been looking for jobs as they sat on their a… for the last 4 years!

Cut all there jobs duplicates upon duplicate jobs all tollways are automated. Since all toll booths are automated another fleecing of Illinois taxpayers

Would be cheaper to disband Tollway Authority, convert tollways to freeways. Tolls mostly pay for duplicate highway services and payroll/pension costs.

The article is unclear; are all 147 workers tollbooth operators? If so, why are they needed when every toll booth (at least that I’ve passed through) is automated Are these office workers? Doing what?
