‘Violence in this city took them away:’ CPD officer mourns 2 best friends killed in the line of duty – NBC5 (Chicago)

Luis Huesca had just gotten off a shift when he was fatally shot April 21 near his Gage Park home. Just over a year earlier, Andrés Vásquez-Lasso was shot and killed responding to a domestic incident in the same Southwest Side neighborhood. Officer Lucia Chavez said at Huesca's funeral, "I lost my two classmates, my best friends, my brothers. This violence in this city took them away from me, from us."
