“Public bargaining, it opens up more dialogue, but it also allows us to create a tidal wave of voices calling for the same thing and envisioning a new school day that can bring joy back into the classroom, that’s got librarians and libraries, sports, music, arts for every student, and we’re looking forward to this process and engaging more stakeholders,” CTU Vice President Jackson Potter said. “I think it’s going to be very popular and historic.”
Is contract bargaining open to general public? Or, as article states, just “community stakeholders”? Whoever or however “community stakeholders” is defined?….or, if CTU is so adamant about appearing transparent, they could simply live-stream the whole circus on social media
Or, for that matter, why isn’t CTU & CTU/Brandon & the crew pushing to have ALL public sec contracts live-streamed for Chicago? Counties? State?, etc as part of their progressive agenda…..the technology to make this a realty is now incredibly affordable.
Take one look at how BJ dealt with ShotSpotter and apply that to everything else technology related…

This is great news. All the armchair education quarterbacks should attend and fix everything that ails CPS. Everyone that complains how contracts are negotiated in private should be ecstatic. Great job CTU!
“It allows us to create a tidal wave of voices, all calling for the same thing…” CTU Vice President Potter. You expect anyone to believe that this is about trying to improve academics? LMAO
At least the Chicago school district is opening up the negotiations to the public before the contract is ratified. That is a good start. Now many politicians/media/general public will have a preview and hopefully a voice on what is affordable. Here in Rockford all negotiations are behind closed doors. Only the super/school board/attorneys are present. If at the very least the mayor/local public officials/state officials/the media are present they can digress the the demands of the school district better than the general public and explain it to us what it will cost all of us. What if you want to… Read more »
Yessir Freddy. Now when the contract is negotiated and ratified we will know that the public, school board and teachers all agree to the contract. This way no one will be able to complain that the contract isn’t “affordable”. “What if you want to purchase a car and you are not allowed in the negotiations? The salesman and dealership make the deal and hand you the bill ot the same with buying a home. Who knows what you will pay. Now we have no idea until after ratification.” Not quite. It’s like you chose someone to represent you (just like… Read more »
True that many in their minds aren’t really paying anyway. I have spoke to so many people who rent and say they don’t pay real estate taxes but do not realize they do via their ever rising rents. Regardless it would be nice to know whomever has a say in negotiations what the terms are before not after. Rockford Dist 205 ratified a new 4 year contract a while ago and not much was said by media since they are also clueless to the terms until after. Hopefully Chicago will set a precedent by disclosing the terms before not after.… Read more »
“not much was said by media since they are also clueless to the terms until after” Not much is said because the majority of people do not care. Media is trying to fight for its last breath and keep their business alive. It doesn’t help to print articles that the vast majority have no interest in reading. Look at this site. If it wasn’t for donations as well as Mark, Ted, et al. working for below market/nominal wages, this site wouldn’t exist. I would love to see a drastic reduction in property taxes (say capped at 0.75 percent of value)… Read more »
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

i’d love to go but I NO LONGER LIVE IN CHICAGO Lol
That stinks Debbie. Without you they won’t be able to fix it.
They can pay me as an outside consultant LOL
Look at you suggesting they spend more money on consultants. Classic big government supporter.
Happy you found other people to argue with!!!!
