For Memorial Day, imagine speaking to those we once honored, like these – Wirepoints

This Memorial Day, imagine speaking to them.

Imagine briefing them on what has become of America, then asking, “Is this what you died for?”

Imagine their reaction.

Imagine, for example, speaking to the 16 dead Marines named on the memorial behind barriers at the former Marine training camp in Chicago, now housing illegal migrants. Imagine, for a start, explaining today’s crime on our streets, our politicized legal system, woke indoctrination in the military, government censorship, the assault on free speech, the Palestinian flag raised over Daley Center in Chicago, the foreign influence peddling conducted in open view by a president and his family and the Venezuelan gang members arrested in Chicago, deportation of whom was thwarted by federal or local policies. Imagine telling them, whose motto was “Leave no man behind,” about the Afghanistan withdrawal process.

And imagine telling them that millions from many nations, including our enemies, are entering unchecked through an open border.

Those Marines’ survivors can only squint through the gates to see the abandoned memorial at the migrant center.

I took these pictures Sunday of the converted migrant facility at 3034 West Foster in Chicago. You can see the memorial only through the iron gates in the front.

The memorial to the Marines, inaccessible and barely visible behind the locked gates.

Trespassing signs are everywhere. Most of it the facility is covered in blinds to prevent pictures. Readers here who told me they tried to film it say they’ve been chased off. Many of the migrants deserve pity and compassion, but if they entered illegally they must return home or to where they will be legally accepted. We have no other choice.

Honor the dead by imagining you could speak to them, but do not say “Happy Memorial Day.”

Don’t fret it. Pretty soon you will be forced to house illegals in your own home.

It looks like the memorial should be moved to a better place for it. I imagine the chances of that being done aren’t very high. I can see why people in the neighborhoods complain about these setups. The place itself should look more lively with migrants residing there. It’s bad for the community to use the property for confinement purposes. The social fools in the city counsel should be told to make the property an actual contribution to the area to the fullest extent possible, and to do it asap. It seems they have already spent the money, again, on… Read more »

As a NW side city resident Marines base has sat empty for years. But the entire saga of how Marines base got turned into migrant shelter is a PR train wreak for city as usual. It was 39th ward Alderman Nugent who felt she was doing her part finding location for migrant in her ward, one of 2 locations. The property was purchased by city for $1.5 mil from Metropolitan Water Rec Dist last year. Alder Nugent hopes facility will become community center after migrant situation is over, good luck with that. I don’t know how many $millions city put… Read more »

I don’t know much about Alderman Nugent or what her choices were. The question is how old she will be when the property would ever be used for a community center. Changes needed to support a migrant shelter was mentioned, but I didn’t see any follow-up about what has actually been done by now. I found it hard to believe there were occupants. There was no front-loaded improvement plan, so those paying and experiencing the results wouldn’t benefit at all and will be asked to pay more as long as they stick around. Making decisions for reasons that aren’t good… Read more »

Better yet, why aren’t those illegals earning their keep by cutting the grass?

Thank you, Mark, for your elegant words, even if you are preaching to choir here. If I hear or see Happy Memorial Day one more time……!!

Wait until we find out the illegals are in basic training for the Illinois National Guard.

Reminds me of the construction crew that was recently told to remove an American flag they had on their equipment- while working in Denali ( formerly McKinley who must’ve raised the ire of the woke and got cancelled) national park.

Our elected officials in the past year have shown what a disgraceful batch of self centered, condescending elitists who have no respect for the sacrifices made for this country or the people who believe in America and the values it represents. Shame on all of these disgusting Democrats The governor of Illinois The mayor of Chicago The County board president The States Attorney of Cook County The fruit loop Chicago City Council members The senior senator of Illinois The junior senator of Illinois (a vet no less) All the disrespect, lies, and manipulation they have conducted against the people, the… Read more »

So correct Donny. What an unbelievable time we are living in witnessing these traitors tear down everything we stand for. This can’t end well.

Too many people in this country don’t even know what Memorial Day represents. Too many others despise the armed forces that keep this country safe. All I’m sure of is we are all indebted to those who have served, and we should all honor those that made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
