Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. As is usually the case with Trump, you have to take him not literally but seriously. So maybe Pritzker doesn’t “make Chris Christie look like a male model”, and maybe Illinois has not disintegrated “at levels never seen before in any State” (I’d argue that as bad as Illinois is, California went way farther and more rapidly into the crapper). But the general point — that “crime is rampant” (at least in cities of any size, and not just Chicago) and “people are, sadly, fleeing Illinois” remains valid.
I love Trump talking about the girth of both Pritzker and Christie. Obviously Trump is a man with no self awareness.
