Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. I’ll only add I find it interesting that Do Nothing Durbin once again proves his complete uselessness by openly declaring that he’s going to wait until others tell him what to think! He’s not even pretending to add value anymore. Please God, put this guy out of our misery already.
While I agree with those unhappy with Durban he does serve one purpose and that is preventing someone worse from taking his spot. Consider Madigan’s replacement Welch is he better? Don’t forget Pritzker wanted an Illinois Senatorial seat before and getting it would provide him a nice stepping stone on his planned path to the Presidency and with that in mind I think Durban might be a better choice than Pritzker for Senator.
