Chicago mayor launches new initiative to break the cycle of violence – FOX32 (Chicago)

The program, named "Cycle Breakers," includes conflict resolution, mentoring, and mental health services. The goal is to expand current safety efforts, promote healing, and connect young people, as well as their parents, teachers, coaches, and caregivers, with necessary resources.

As long as they feel destroying another person is a reasonable option to achieve your goals, this will continue. They are dehumanizing other gang / tribe / band / social media antagonists and that enables them to pull the trigger.

There’s one thing about this culture of violence. I read a scholarly article about it in college. The places in the world with high rates of violence generally all share the same cultural trait that places high value on personal respect; and if you violate that cultural norm, the offended respond with violence. What I mean is that in these cultures, and I can’t find the correct terminology anymore becuase these types of articles are considered racist and disappear from the internet, is that cultures that place high value on ‘dissing’ or ‘disrepecting’ people have high levels of interpersonal violence.… Read more »

Oh for Christ’s sake! We’ve done midnight basketball, hug a thug, violence interruption, peace circles and other forms of grift that padded pockets and solved nothing and now this. How about using the jails the taxpayers paid money for and filling them like the Black Hole of Calcutta. If lifelong criminals don’t find them comfortable, I really don’t care.
