Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Go across State lines to get much better medical care as many doctors in my area are choosing to move across State lines as well. Buy cheaper gas while there that makes up for the extra mileage for the medical trip. It puts a smile on my face at each fill up knowing that I am keeping, no matter how small, money from the Illinois political mess.
Filled up last week outside of Knoxville at a super large Buc-ee’s – $2.88/ gal for regular. Most expensive gas on my trip was you guessed it – right here in IL.
Fill up in Indiana. Fill up in Wisconsin. Bring a trunkfull of Jerrycans with you and fill them up to tide you over until your next out of state trip. When desperate NEVER fill up in Chicago or Cook County. That bit of DuPage County just SW of O’Hare is the closest outside of Cook County bit to Chicago.
