If this bill passes, say goodbye to local control over all Illinois parks and expect to see open drug and alcohol use, needles, no sanitation and fire hazards, but no ordinary park users.
Of course, there are levels of states’ redness or blueness. A conservative trying to help make significant changes to the right in a deep blue, public union-owned state like IL is a formidable task. Sure, some libs are moving to deep red states like TN, but it would take a long time, if ever, to flip those states to deep blue. Young people in a deep blue state may stay due to naivety or other factors. However, many of us IL senior citizens, even if we actively sought significant change, either would die before those changes happened or would be… Read more »
Criminals in Chicago are not pursued, not caught, not arrested, not prosecuted and not incarcerated. The few that are, seem to be released shortly, many without bail. In short, thanks to the Democratic leadership and the union stranglehold on the election process, CRIME PAYS IN CHICAGOLAND. In other words, unless these dynamics change, why would crime ever go down or stop increasing. CRIME IS GREAT BUSINESS IN CHICAGOLAND. Perhaps the mayor will solve the problem by giving criminals a guaranteed minimum income. Indeed, perhaps a bonus for repeat offenders. As you can see, HOPELESS with no solution on the horizon.
Not going to happen like that. Illinois is the laughingstock of the country. It is the example of what not to do.
The best thing that could happen for America is Blue States collapse. CA and IL and NY are well on their way to collapse. No bailouts from PDJT.
Trump’s control and manipulation of his cult, to his advantage no less, has been one of the biggest bailouts.
Go vote your girl Kaaamaaala and leave us normal people that want a decent life alone!
Typical low IQ cult comment.
Yeah. I wonder what it would take to collapse. I heard that the government can never go broke. They just keep raising taxes.
The truth is, they theoretically can collapse, but in practice don’t. The munibond markets will buy the debt of terribly run governments because inside their fund formation documents they have to be fully invested. There is only so much debt available to buy. They charge a higher interest rate given the risk. On the part of municipalities, they put covenants in their bond issuance that guarantee payment of interest. In Chicago, they can automatically raise sales/property taxes without a vote if need be to cover costs of borrowing. The citizens often have property payments that happen automatically and taxes are… Read more »
Ted is right. The “safe red state” is an illusion as long as the progressive left is marching toward control of the entire country. West Germany and Berlin were protected from East German encroachment by the full force of NATO. Do you think the state borders will protect you from a leftist onslaught? You can flee, but you won’t be able to hide from them. You will, however, be hundreds of miles away from family.
Who says you have to go hundreds of miles from your family? Some moves are as little as a few miles. Your reasoning is the same reason I stayed for all the years I did. All the time fighting the slave masters. You know-Democrats. Then I realized that I was just a slave and that I didn’t need to go far to still stay close to my family. Then something interesting happened. My family realized the same thing I did. They were smarter. They realized it sooner. And now they live near me in the same town.
My family wouldn’t leave me like that though. I want to be near them. Why would I be hundreds of miles away?
Many extol the virtues of TN, FL, NC, SC. All fine states, and hundreds of miles away.
But an hour and a half flight brings you to a red state (TN). Whereas an hour and a half car ride brings you from O’Hare to the Loop.
Assuming WP still hopes to play some role in fixing Illinois someday, it needs as many conservatives as possible to stick around. If too many leave, it will make it all the more difficult to fix things.
Based on what I see, that exodus is accelerating. Just anecdotal but many more seem to be giving up.
Nobody would blame WP if they threw in the towel. I know you won’t, but I think everyone reading this wouldn’t blame you one bit.
We are already gone and many following. Staying is hopeless.
When Rauner was frog marched out of office by the Combine, I knew right then that it was time to get out. Four years ago in June 2020 made the move to East Tennessee. I don’t miss the city, even though I follow the politics closely. I’m still flabbergasted by friends still there, complaining about how their property taxes are breaking the bank. Yet they continue to vote these criminals into office. I don’t get it. Now with the Reds leaving, it leaves more Blues to run the shit show. And a shit show it is. I never thought I’d… Read more »
I am always sending my daughter and son-in-law news articles and Facebook links about what is happening in Chicago but they still won’t let me see my grandson.
Solidly red states are not run like blue states. Things can change over time, but it wouldn’t be quick if it did occur. Extremism has definitely spread on both sides, and it could get very ugly over the next few decades. It’s happened before in this country, and to most civilizations over the course of time for different reasons.
The Nazis were only in Bavaria, too, until they took over the country. The last few weeks are an indication that decades to unfold is no longer the time frame we should be thinking about.
Exactly. And Bavaria was also located near the middle of Germany, near water. Just like Illinois.
Bavaria is located near water only if you are referring to lakes and rivers.
Sure. Some day all the slaves in Illinois are going to miraculously stand up and throw the bums out. Sure some day these Illinois lemmings will all awake to realize the conditions under which they toil. Fight smarter. Fight harder. Fight longer. Awaken the people. That’s what I told myself for over 50 years. In that time frame, it has not only not improved, it is way worse. The fact is, Illinoisans are perfectly contented being slaves as long as their masters give them bread and circuses (Read restaurants and sports). They don’t even know they are slaves, but hey… Read more »
The taxes are really high too.
Thats FALSE.
Indiana has a 1% constitutional cap on property taxes & the state constitution is structured to ensure the budget is genuinely balanced and the gimmicks Illinois uses are not allowed here.
Personally, I want Illinois to spectacularly fail. I want California to spectacularly fail. If they fail, there is little chance of their policies being adopted in red states. I strongly disagree with the title premise.
Two things I have observed in life is that no one ever got elected on the cut spending platform and the other is people love to borrow and spend money. With that in mind it’s highly likely that which is Illinois could spread. The will of the voters sort of thing.
I think the overarching issue is in the following saying: “power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” It seems to be human nature for people to be greedy, in general. In government (state, municipal, etc.), the more money they make and the more untouchable their positions are (aka power, perceived or real), the greedier and more irresponsible with taxpayer money they seem to be, and the less concerned they seem to be about the masses. Call it a severe case of entitlement. There’s a lot of that mindset in Illinois, especially.
Ted still lives in Illinois. Why?
Yes hut a lot of people live in that state.
