Mayor Johnson deflects criticism on school board resignations, argues he’s preventing CPS budget cuts – WBEZ (Chicago)

The mayor said, "... (T)he people who are upset with me right now, as we shepherd and transition into this transformational moment … are the same people that watch Black women cry when their jobs were were being taken away from them, and then blame those Black women for the conditions in which Black children were being raised in abject poverty — [and] many of them are tied to administrations that not only closed schools and privatized assets, but shut down public housing, took the dedicated string for pensions and gave it to greedy corporate interests, spent all the money, left me with the bill, and now they’re mad that I’m actually doing what I promised I would do on behalf of parents, even though they have left a trail of harm."

Dear Lord, Sarah Karp. Must you be part of the malodorous media in Chicago that can’t speak truth to leftist Democrats? Sarah, you forgot ‘long overdue’, ‘desperately needed’, and ‘unavoidable’ when discussing cuts to the massive overspend that defines CPS spending. Sarah, you let Conehead the Mayorbarian employ the lame, tired narrative of race to justify his completely unjustifiable and dangerous actions. You cannot borrow money to pay current expenses, unless you want your organization to come to a screeching halt. Like the late George Warrington at Amtrak, Conehead is going to bankrupt CPS by doing just that. Just as… Read more »

So Playa wants to take a victory lap for not trimming a budget that is sorely overdue for one, equates closing empty schools with all of the problems in the community and makes it a point to play the victim card ( stuck me with the bills )?
I don’t think he even realizes the depths of his stupidity.

The constituents have gotten what they voted for, and it’s so entertaining I’m finding it hard to look away.

This maybe the end of CPS. If this continues and this pin-head plunges that District into hundreds of millions of dollars of debt, just to avoid laying off his union buddies, while playing the race card every single time he opens his mouth…bankruptcy is next. What needs to happen isn’t pleasant…it will be work and change some people’s lives. But hey…stuff happens. Close Schools who don’t have enough students. Consolidate those students into other buildings Layoff the employees who are not needed any longer. Tell the Union NO to their latest demands. Focus on eliminating waste and corruption If it… Read more »

He plays the race card but CTU is majority white? Even if they get just 5% they’ll be highest paid teachers of any major school district nationally. It’s race/gender Equity Hustle on steroids CTU style!!

Is majority white upper-income CTU’s biggest equity race grift to demand CPS take out +$300 mil high interest loan to pay for non-CTU working class B&B SEIU staffs pensions while that frees up $100s of millions in new spending for CTU 9% pay raises, etc contract demands? SEIU got 4% in new contract back in may

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
