DOJ investigating Sangamon County for discrimination after Sonya Massey murder – WCIA (Champaign)

In their letter dated Thursday, Department of Justice officials said Sonya Massey’s murder “raises serious concerns” about members of the Sheriff’s Office’s interactions with Black people and people with behavioral health disabilities. “These allegations collectively raise concerns of race and disability discrimination prohibited by Title VI, the Safe Streets Act, and Title II,” the letter reads.
