U.S. Congress Members From Illinois on Trump’s Immigration Plans, Environmental Concerns – WTTW (Chicago)

“I saw Donald Trump make a lot of promises in order to distract the American people from his plan to reward the billionaires sitting in that front row next to his family members and make sure that those folks got a tax break at the expense of hard working families across northern Illinois,” said U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood. “And so I do not have any kind of conviction that Donald Trump is inspired by Martin Luther King Jr., and I take him at his word when he makes these promises to harm families in our community.”

Someone with actual knowledge of the tax code should sit down with Lauren and show her how math really works. A few tips for starters Lauren. First, you have to actually pay taxes to be able to see a reduction in taxes. Tough concept I guess for US House Reps, but think about it! Second, the 2018 Trump tax plan eliminated many deductions used by the wealthiest Americans and simplified the tax code. Third, the standard deduction, which is used by the average family was doubled. And finally, virtually all tax rates were reduced, meaning all taxpayers participated in the… Read more »

Abena Bediako, stenographer for the DNC masquerading as a reporter for Wilmette Talking To Winnetka, pens a completely balanced report about the new administration’s priorities. That is, it features nothing but reactions from some of the dumbest (Quigley) and most left-leaning (Underwood) Illinois political animals. Did Abena forget to include the Pee-BS story about Elon Musk? That’ll be in the next group of DNC talking points to be distributed at taxpayer cost.

Defund PBS. Now.

I am not a wealthy individual and am pretty low on the totem pole regarding income levels. That being said Trumps tax cuts did lower my taxes by increasing the standard deductions thereby lowering income subject to taxation. On the other hand my Illinois taxation jumped up markedly so Representative Underwood your comments more or less represent fake news at its finest that WTTW chose to publicize adding to the fake news mess we have today. Seriously, a basic tax course should be taken by these wide mouthed journalists before allowing their comments in public

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
