Gov. JB Pritzker accused President Donald Trump’s administration of “trying to confuse the American people,” but said the state is nonetheless making contingency plans should tens of billions of dollars in federal funding disappear. “The United States Constitution clearly states that Congress has the power of the purse and sets laws to obligate federal funding for all 50 states,” Pritzker said. “What Donald Trump tried to do in the last 24 hours is illegal.”
While I wholeheartedly agree with removing so much of this waste from government and am extremely skeptical of many NGO’s, this was amateurishly executed by the Trump administration. Just why? That said, reading comments on CapFax about this story and noticed the CEO of Illinois Collaboration on Youth had chimed in, leading me to pull their financials. Sure enough, an organization that receives government grants for… salaries. My organization ran donation campaigns for Catholic Charities many years ago, until we learned very little actually made it to the people they served. That may have changed, but at the time, it… Read more »

Is it true that the Biden administration dipped into the medicare/medicaid money? If true is that legal?
Medicare and SS taxes are put into a supposed trust fund. The trust fund invests the money in the most secure investment, US Treasury bonds. Where else would they invest the money- in the stock market?
The money is given to the government, replaced by a promise to reimburse out of future taxes. The funds are then available for current use, as the proceeds of a bond issue.
Every administration has dipped into the Medicare and SS funds. That’s the way it was set up.

The last thing JB the Hutt, Kwame ‘the work of his life’ Raoul, and the rest of the Government Industrial Complex wants is a real assessment, an audit of where taxpayer dollars are going.
The second last is the loss of baseline budgeting.

It’s being reported on talk radio this morning that one item in the freeze of federal spending was that 50 million dollars worth of condoms for Gaza was stopped unbelievable but Pritzker is again as usual flapping his mouth against President Trump.

Dearest JB, nobody is asking you to function as a bulwark against Mean-Man Trump.
It speaks volumes that YOU, as the chief executive of a failing state, believe it is your mandate to impede someone trying to keep a larger state, a union of 50 states from follwing down your path… Federal spending is beyond out of control and a freeze on grants, etc. will allow time for programs to be considered.
JB, you goof, you want to lead by example? Adopt a zero-budget approach for our state.

Oh no, legal scholar and known donut guzzler says Trump’s actions are illegal!
“Stop quoting laws to men with swords” said Pompey told Romans when they questioned his legal jurisdiction. Trump has the office of the presidency and the DOJ and the military on his side. JB is a nearly powerless peon at this point.
You comment reflects the hysteria created by the fake news media and parroted by sycophants of fake news.
Brian, here is Stephen Miller patiently explaining to Jake Tapper what the EO is actually about:
It’s about pausing, for review, funds NOT GRANTED BY CONGRESS, and the EO does not affect any public benefit programs.
No individual assistance programs are affected.
Must have been Brian’s hysteria that caused a judge to block the order and the White House to rescind it because of all the confusion Then again maybe Brian was referring to the implication that people with an army don’t need to follow the law by the original comment. I’m curious why the White House and the judge didn’t just tell people like Brian to “calm down”? It’s a mystery.
My problem with all the irrational hysteria is that it’s distracting attention from the huge issue that’s at the bottom of this — whether the president has power to impound appropriated money. At the heart of that is the federal Impoundment Control Act from 1974, that prohibits most impoundment. Trump’s position that it’s unconstitutional. That probably will be litigated soon, and I think Trump will probably lose. Most scholars seem to say the law is sound. I don’t think a president should have a broad right to impoundment (unless the appropriation made the spending discretionary). But Trump does have a… Read more »
That’s a little tricky. Yes, the EO is about “discretionary spending” as that term is used to mean things other than automatic obligations like bond payments and Social Security. Within that discretionary spending, there’s another layer of discretion meaning money that has been appropriated but without a mandate on when or how to disburse it.
ok, I’ll call it “discriminatory spending”.
the EO is a directive to end all federal funding across all federal bureaucracies and agencies that fund
gender ideology, the Green New Scam, and DEI, federal programs that support abortion..
These are all socialistic programs that do not add to our society and economy and eliminating them in a meaningful way is the first step.
Argentina did it.
They completely turned around their economy when they eliminated socialistic programs.
If we do not shrink this leviathan bloat we will sink like Rome.
“This is NOT a recession of the federal funding freeze.
It is simply a rescission of the OMB memo.
WHY? To end any confusion created by the court’s injunction.
The President’s EO’s on federal funding remain in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented.”
