Companies could be required to pay reparations in Illinois under new plan – WAND (Decatur)

Co-sponsor of the bill Rep. Carrol Ammons said America in the past has paid reparations to communities such as Japanese Americans and Native American tribes, but the descendants of slavery have not been paid.

This country has already paid reparations. They’re LBJ’s Great Society programs, and they cost this country $25 trillion. We have the same percentage of poor people after spending the $25 trillion, but the government also wrecked the culture and broke up families at the same time
You get a blank stare when you tell people that the reparations have already been paid.

Anyone seeking reparations should be required to take a 6th grade reading and math competency test as a first step, failures go home. We subtract the cost of their education for 12 years and they now owe us. At the second step, we examine any medical expenses the applicant may have had the general public pay for and the cost to the public of any crimes they may have committed. The Evanston reparations aren’t for slavery, they’re for redlining and covenants which caused some persons of colour to be unable to buy or retain real estate, just because they were not colorless. This may have disadvantaged them or their descendants. While there are certainly some corporations which may have benefited from slavery, and which still exist, the stockholders today have nothing to do with the stockholders of 1863. Corporations are not people.

Start with Pritzker Family Superior Bank, which profited through predatory lending, subprime loans to South Side home/car buyers and from misled depositors.
