Democrats fume over weak early response to Trump – The Hill

Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.)Six Democratic governors, including Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker Maura Healey, pressed Schumer to put up more of a fight against Trump’s agenda. That produced an exasperated response from Senate Democrats, who spoke on the floor late into the night Wednesday to highlight the impact the funding freeze ordered by Trump’s budget office would have on communities around the country. “I would say to my friend [Pritzker], as you would like to have a majority of governors, we would like to have the majority of senators. There’s a limit to how much we can we do,” Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) said.

Democrats playbook seems to be, if Trump is for it, we’re against it. That probably plays well with the far left of their base but not the middle. Maybe once they look at how all these issues poll they’ll change their tune, hopefully not though.

These are not serious people who want to solve problems, improve the lives of the American citizen, be good stewards of our tax dollars…these are people playing a game…These people do two things…tell you what to be afraid of…and who’s to blame for it. They are interested in the status quo and maintaining their ability to be relevant and visible to the lobbyist money. When Bobby Kennedy looked at the democrats at his hearing and told them they were part of the problem and Bernie Sanders had accepted almost $2M dollars from Pharma and Food industries and so did Liz… Read more »

Hopefully the career politicians like Durbin, Schumer, Pelosi, Warren etc., refuse to go away and insist on fighting to retain their positions. Those are the people standing in the way of Dems rebranding themselves and challenging Trump and Republicans going forward. They are all toxic.

Correct, I want them all to run for reelection and to resist from their wheelchairs.
No one from Gen Z wants to vote for these decrepit dinosaurs.

Welp, with the Trump “wins” in just the last *24* hours with Panama, USAID, and now Mexico, the dems will be “fuming” a lot more, lol! I expect CanaDUH will be caving to Trump’s demands very shortly. Honestly, every day of the only *two week – old* Trump administration has been like Christmas Day… seeing “Team Trump” win *sure* is fun…!!!

The voters have spoken and all that Schumer, Durbin and other weak kneed, long in the tooth Dems can do is put up a token opposition to try and stave off the far left from throwing them out of their cushy seats in favor of nut jobs like the new DNC chairman.

Schumer telling Americans they will lose their Coronas and avocados really hit home. I am sure that will change the momentum.

Trump is thankfully clearing some of the liberal smog and polluters like lifetime political class Durbin are aghast that Trump is working quickly on what he said he’d do. My guess is that Trump is going at a breakneck pace for a few reasons, force the democrats into chaos and having to play whack a mole, also because he is already a lame duck president and knows that mid term elections historically shift congressional power. If he is able to inspire a continued shift toward common sense politicians then the next mid terms could further confirm that more and more… Read more »

CO Democrat slips and utters the obvious – The base of Democrats is down to some large cities in mostly Blue States and Aspen and Martha’s Vineyard (I’d add Hollywood). W/o ballot harvesting Democrats may never win another national election.

LOL Durbin is correct, there is nothing they can do. They don’t have the senate. They don’t have the house. They don’t have the SCOTUS. They don’t have a majority of governors. They don’t have the popular vote. Their policy positions are wildly unpopular while Republican policies – especially deportation – are extremely popular. They’re losing their funding through DOGE. They’ve about lost their deep state – the unelected bureaucracy that form the underpinnings of the #Resistance. They’re out in the wilderness for two years, and likely have lost much of their power for a decade, maybe even a generation.… Read more »

The most insightful sentence in your post was your last sentence: “Hopefully Trump and Republicans don’t overplay their hands and do something stupid”. Trump’s trade war with the rest of the world could be the start of that. It’s early and we’ll see how it plays out. Trump could just back down and declare victory and that would save a lot of economic pain that is sure to come if we have a protracted trade war, especially since it’s mostly with our allies. As to your other observations. The Dems don’t have the senate but in 5 of the swing… Read more »

Our allies need to start acting like real allies. That’s a main point of the tariffs.

How should our allies act?

Well, a trade war is the buzz phrase of the day and is a concern. Thus far, Trump appears to have used the threat of tariffs the way he said he was going to …to get the attention of countries who are not treating the US fairly. He is using this real threat to move the ball, change the status quo, do a better deal for the US. These other countries know – he will not blink – and they, after going to the media with claims of retaliation…quickly their after, agree to the US Terms. These Democrat criminals are… Read more »

Yes, but the trend is your friend, and the trend has been towards Republican. of course, we don’t have FDR 1930’s margins, but we do control all of the levers of power. Yes, Democrats won those 4 of 5 swing state senate elections by slim, slim margins in states that Trump won – especially that Wisconsin seat, with late night Democrat vote dumps out of Milwaukee…even Hovde waited a few days before conceding because of how unusual that was. As for the rest of the situation, Will Georgia keep a blue senator in 2026 especially if Trump proves popular? What… Read more »

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Audio here.
