New U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi uses her first day in office to ban federal funds from heading to ‘Sanctuary Cities‘ – The Independent/Yahoo

Long before Bondi’s directive, mayors across the country have stood up to Trump’s planned mass deportations. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson told the Washington Post in November that the sanctuary city planned to take on any threats to its funding. He added: “There will not be any cooperation” with deportations.

In 2018, and again in 2019, courts in crazy leftwing nutjob California said that Trump could not withhold federal funds from Sanctuary cities. The court said that San Fransicko’s sanctuary ordinances were lawful. The Trump administration – for strategic reasons – did not appeal this ruling to the Supreme Court, likely believing that the would have the chance to obtain a better ruling in another state, so they could create a split in authorities to appeal to the Supreme Court. This is the path we are now.

OOPS…:LOL..!!! Trump administration sues Chicago, state of Illinois over sanctuary laws — and vows more lawsuits to come [EXCERPTS]: https://nypost.com/2025/02/06/us-news/trump-administration-sues-chicago-state-of-illinois-over-sanctuary-laws-and-vows-more-lawsuits-to-come/ “The Trump administration has filed suit against the state of Illinois, Cook County and the city of Chicago, arguing their sanctuary laws “interfere” with Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s ability to arrest and deport illegal migrants — the first of many such lawsuits to come, Justice Department officials told The Post… The suit singles out several state and local laws that the Justice Department identifies as inhibiting the federal government’s ability to enforce US immigration law… “We’ve identified Illinois, the city… Read more »

The Pritzker for President 2028 campaign sees this as an opportunity to gain the national media attention that JB craves. JB is foaming at the mouth (and not from that fried butter he ate) at this presidential resume polishing chance. Too bad JB doesn’t realize that he is going into a battle of wits unarmed.

i didn’t realize that the Citizens of Illinois were getting money for taking in the immigrants. I wonder, has there been an accounting of that money?

Can’t wait to see the frenzied response to this by the progressive asinine “wine and cheese set” libtards here in Evanston, lol…

Nice to have people in charge that are concerned with bigger problems than proper pronouns and ice cream.

She is excellent, really top – class! And yeah, it’s a relief to have highly – qualified and energetic *adults* back in charge. WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is another superstar, I really enjoy her press briefings. The disastrous Xiden regime is a fast – receding memory, can’t believe we had to endure that hot mess, lol…

And the “Has-been Illinois social justice warriors” all have guaranteed upper-income deals with city, state, etc. While us chumbalones get holding the doodie bag as usual….is there any place better to be a upper-income social justice warrior on the taxpayers dime than Chicago???

I like the stop-payment feature because it puts immediate pressure in place while courts gnaw on the legal issues. Perhaps a good time, also, for a bill authorizing state bankruptcy and letting creditors put municipalities in. Should be popular with taxpayers if it extinguishes some pension debt. Legal fees could accelerate insolvency and open up a Puerto Rico fix. Need to reconcile state sovereignty rules such as Dobbs (abortion) but it’s past time to stop nullification. U.S.SupCt probably as good as we can hope for. Time for bold moves.

The legal maneuvering also puts the state on it’s backfoot having to defend so many lawsuits coming from them at all directions all at once. The DOJ has all the resources of the federal government at its disposal, but, the state is limited by Kwame’s budget (already strained) and his astute legal acumen LOL

Mark Glennon on AM560’s Morning Answer: Chicago pension buyout plan mostly shifts debt rather than eliminating it, property tax surge doubles inflation over three decades

Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension.
