Chicago Housing Development Shrinks Itself by 80% in Face of Trump Tariffs – Newsweek

Mavrek planned to build a 210-unit mixed-use complex in Chicago's Lake View neighborhood but announced this week the development has shrunk to only 46 units amid concerns about the economy and tariffs. "It's not just Chicago – you look in almost any major city, there's very little new development right now," CEO Adam Friedberg said.

Newsweek is basically useless with this article. They desperately try and pin the tariff tail on President Trump, never mind that they never took effect. Andy Stanton, the DNC typist who authored this mess lives in Maine, far away from Chicago and he clearly believes Mayor Cliff Notes and JB the Hutt when they try to sell Chicago as a desirable location to live. The 900 pound gorilla in the room is the lack of any real demand for new and expensive residential units in Chicago. In short, no one wants to move to Chicago, particularly those who would pay… Read more »

This is why I include criticism of the authors of these inane, political animal-enabling pieces. If you want to be called a journalist, be a journalist.

And here’s a Block Club article also stupidly blaming tariffs for Chicago’s worst-in-nation inflation: https://blockclubchicago.org/2025/02/14/chicago-leads-nation-in-inflation-survey-shows-leaving-residents-struggling-to-afford-basics/

Its almost as if the Government Industrial Complex keeps throwing things at the wall to deflect from their failures, desperate to recruit support from the center amid revelations of widespread corruption in spending. I really don’t get their FA antipathy towards the DOGE exam. I don’t see this FA not resulting in an electoral FO for them.

Don’t know what FA and FO mean but I assume they are bad.

The PG version is: FA = Fornicate Around. FO = Find Out. I strongly suspect that, like FUBAR, SNAFU and other colorful and sharply accurate obscenities, the phrase has military origins.

Of come on Adam, it isn’t about tariffs and the economy, which keeps humming along. It’s that nobody wants to live in big blue cities, which are essentially sh!tholes. And there’s no more money coming from Uncle Sam, so it’s only going to get worse in those big blue cities.
