Figure out if there’s a problem before boosting Illinois pensions – Illinois Policy

If there are violations of federal rules, Illinois has no clue as to how many workers are impacted. The state doesn’t know what the penalties might be. It hasn’t studied the legal questions. Pension calculations by actuaries have not been performed to determine the need or the cost.

I don’t think anybody knows what an individual’s pension will be OR what Social Security will provide in the future. Figure it out at retirement and provide a make-up annuity. Nobody should oppose kicking the can or burdening the taxpayers of tomorrow. SOME future generation will catch on and file for bankruptcy and let the retirees fight over the bones.

We already know there’s a problem. Illinois can’t afford the pensions.
