Legislation would streamline services to identify human trafficking in Illinois – Center Square

“Illinois ranks among the highest in the number of human trafficking cases in the whole United States,” said state Sen. Julie Morrison. “Within Illinois alone, the National Human Trafficking Hotline has identified more than 5,600 victims since 2007, but that is probably just a drop in the bucket.”

Why is this Julie? Why is Illinois #1 for human trafficking? Please be specific – as it relates to our sanctuary status – as to why criminals believe they can easily traffic people in the state?
