Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. Long, long ago I had respect for the ACLU – no more.
Same here. But they went over to the dark side.
This will disenfranchise only the habitually lazy. All adults have either a birth certificate or a passport and if you don’t have one, you have plenty of time to go and get either one. The ACLU and league of Women voters must not believe in secure elections. They must believe in cheating.
We need real IDs that require like 500 documents just to fly on a plane, but we can vote just by saying “I’m this person?”
Democrats are really freaked out because they know they might never win an election again without fraud.
The ACLU [American Communist Liberation Union] and the
League of Women VotersLeague of Wacky Viragos say requiring voters to produce a passport or birth certificate to prove citizenship will result in voter suppression for millions of people, including women who have changed their names due to marriage or divorce.“There are some 69 million of us in that boat. And that, right off the bat, that’s taking a huge subset of the population and making it very difficult for them to do that,” said Kathy Cortez, with the League of Women Voters of Illinois.
I call BS!
You can count on the ACLU and the LWV to be against legitimate elections.
As a veteran Chicago media personality, Sarah Schulte should know better than to publish a one-sided propaganda piece on behalf of the DNC. However, as a member of the completely useless Chicago media herself, Sarah falls into the partisan puff piece trap like all the rest of them. Sarah’s whiny partisan sources insist that this order suppresses voting. Indeed it does. For anyone who simply should not be legally voting. This is not general voter suppression, it is voter fraud suppression and the libs can’t win a fair election even in gerrymandered Illinois. The claims about IDs not being possible… Read more »
And these married/divorced woman don’t have drivers licenses?
The only time a change of name from marriage or divorce could hamper any woman’s ability to vote would be if she got married or divorced right on or just before election day with no time to change her registration, and even then it wouldn’t have to be an issue now that we have same-day registration. I got married in the fall of 1994, back in the days when you had to be registered 30 days ahead of the election. I had not changed my address (my husband moved into my home) so I went to the local precinct on… Read more »
We now have to go through significant hassle regarding a new form of ID that includes birth certificates and passports yet the ACLU and League of Women Voter’s oppose the same for voting. Why the double standard?
JB in 2018 and in 2022 increased midterm voter turnout by 800,000 votes. 800,000 more ballots were counted in these two elections than any other governor’s election in Illinois. How many of them were completed by illegal aliens? No one really knows…
Considering that Illinois population is shrinking and the criminal illegal aliens were funded by the state, I’m guessing 800,000.
The only voting that will be ‘suppressed’ will be the illegal kind…
