Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. It must be nice to be handed a billion dollar endowment when you are 21 yrs old and have never worked a day in your life, lived a life of privilege and then use your money to bully your way into a position of authority. If Pritzker wants to continue his personal insults, a good and fair line to revive would be from a Congressman in 1981, who famously said that House Speaker Tip O’Neill was “big, fat and out of control, just like the government.” That’s JB and IL.
