What he does not understand is that fire engine company’s have medical equipment and a paramedic on the majority of company’s. These company’s now have 2 roles Fighting Fire and Emergency medical care. They are the first company’s on the scene of vital medical calls who stabilize sick and injured people as they wait for a ambulance to come back into service from their last call. As a retired CFD member, in my 29 years , not once did the city approve a contract in less than 3 years past the expiration of the old contract. And the prevalence of EMS calls over Fire calls has not changed for quite some time. We do need more ambulances. What people don’t think about is that the City of Chicago is self insured and a lot of that has to do with the ability to provide a solid response to fires and other disasters. Why would CFFU or any other city union except less after giant deal$, new hires, zero school closings CTU just landed w help of Brandon? And passage of Amendent 1 has made, for all practical purposes, any attemps at efficiencies or staffing changes impossible anyway. Brandon knows that, as well as everyone else at city hall. All chump taxpayers can do is pay more as usual and Brandon knows that as well!!!!
