CTA Leader Warns of ‘Severe and Sobering’ Choices Ahead if State Lawmakers Don’t Come Through With Transit Funding – WTTW (Chicago)

Chicago Transit Authority Acting President Nora Leerhsen cautioned that there will be no changes to CTA service during 2025. But the agency will soon consider multiple plans for next year: one based on Chicago-area transit receiving some $1.5 billion in annual state funding, as transit agencies, advocates and lawmakers have discussed; one that anticipates lawmakers only addressing the coming $770 million fiscal cliff created by COVID-19 relief money drying up; and one that anticipates no additional funding state funding, necessitating “draconian” service cuts.

Pritzker and other Democratic politicians in Illinois created this problem by forcing everyone to stay at home during covid, even though many of those people were not going to be affected by covid. So people adapted and found they no longer had a need to travel into Chicago tanking public transportation ridership heading into and within Chicago. Now Illinois politicians the problem they created….oh yeah it’s all Trump’s fault.

The people that run these things are truly idiots. The mismanagement of money is beyond comprehension . I often wonder how miserable does living in Illinois have to get before voters might try voting differently.

Oh well! It is way past time for the CTA , the CTU, the City administration, etc, etc to sober up and stop getting soused on the tax payers dime.

Now that’s funny!

No need to worry. Additional funding will eventually come through with only some small sacrificial cuts. An amazon delivery tax along with some additional taxes on Uber are just around the corner.

PPF is our resident “dreamer up of more and more things to tax”. He’s quite inventive, has a tax solution for every potential problem.

That’s true. I do offer up solutions instead of just whining and complaining.

Significantly cutting public transportation around Chicago or higher and new taxes. I wonder what will happen? lol

How will we ever survive without empty buses cruising around all day, a useless train line being built next to an existing one and Dorval Carter level salaries for the CTA, RTA and Metra fat cats?

Sounds like Nora and her temporary charge could use a little sobering up.

She forgot to mention that there will be severe and sobering choices ahead if lawmakers do come through with transit funding.

OMG!!, all you got to do is Google AI:

—Pre-Pandemic (2019):The CTA had a workforce of over 9,000 front-line operations staff and a 2019 weekday ridership base of almost 1.5 million.

—Current Numbers: As of the end of March 2024, the CTA had 10,606 employees.

—SHOCKING!!!–Other Roles: In 2024, nearly half of CTA employees (5,154 out of 10,588) worked in administration, management, and support roles.

WHO IN THE F-ing WORLD DO THE NEWS MEDIA REPRESENT??? Are they getting paid off to write this stuff by the unions? Absolute horse cr#p propagandists reporting!!!
