As crazy a it may seem, per the very excellent Austin Berg trib column from two weeks ago (https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/06/27/opinion-zohran-mamdami-lesson-chicago-new-york-richard-ravitch/), thanks largely legislative changes after NYC bankruptcy in ’75’, a Mamdani NYC could never be as screwed up a scam as Chicago. As Chicago is only major city without a charter and hence follows no GAAP accounting standards. Similar deal at state level, as I believe NY doesn’t allow anywhere near same level of constitutional protections for the public sector class as 40yrs of Madigan rubber stamp has indentured Illinois with. The Illinois exodus continues to speed up and the daily decisions that these three amigos make on behalf of Illinois taxpayers further cements Illinois as a State that is dying a slow death. Anyone who hasn’t seriously started to pack up to get out of Illinois needs to have their head examined before most of their assets are confiscated.
