Illinois, meanwhile, broadly eliminated all cash bail in 2023 with a provision included in law known as the SAFE-T Act. The provision, dubbed the Pretrial Fairness Act, was endorsed by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, who argued at the time that "cash bail does not make communities safer" and "has simply exacerbated existing inequities and disparities in the criminal legal system."
Multi convicted felons released on a daily basis for committing crimes that are no considered serious enough by the SAFET act to be held in custody of a cash bail set. Meanwhile after getting released these career criminals return to terrorize society over and over again.

A quick look at the numbers of how many felons that would’ve previously been held in custody committing more crimes while on electronic devices, awaiting trial at home ( for which they get x2 credit should they be sentenced while coming and going freely ) and basically disregarding all the rule of release show us that the Safe T act is yet another miserable IL failure.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
