Chicago’s political leadership is floating a pension buyout program as evidence it is seriously addressing the city’s thirty-six-billion-dollar unfunded pension liability, but Mark Glennon, founder of the Illinois policy research organization Wirepoints, said that the proposal moves debt from one column to another rather than reducing it, and that the broader fiscal picture facing the city continues to deteriorate across every measurable dimension. “Tax the Rich” and soon there will be no Rich to tax. Then the suckers who stay in Illinois will pay.
The rich job creators will leave ASAP.
The teacher’s unions work very hard to get more funding, because they are protecting the children from the greedy taxpayers.
When they retire, the pensioners turn their protection racket-oops, I mean talents- to more funding for pensions, because they are protecting the Constitution from those greedy taxpayers.
We are fortunate to have such selfless, dedicated public servants.
Does the woman asking for confiscation of Ty Warner’s $6.6 billion knows that it would only cover 2/3 of the CPS annual budget for 2025 ($9.9 billion)? Tax(ing) the Rich out of existence only insures a declining standard of living for all, but, perhaps, Comrade, that’s the goal?
CPS needs to close underutilized schools, but won’t. “Tax the rich” sounds good, but the rich will move and take their money with them. Cut spending on “special “ programs and wasteful spending is the answer. Spend money actually teach students reading, math, science and American history.
Why is it they always say “Tax the rich or increase taxes . “ You never hear them say close the under utilized schools to save MILLIONS .
On a related note, there should be a reasonable, lower threshold of students to teachers in a classroom. When the ratio drops below the threshold, consolidate. There could be exceptions in rare cases.
The hired 9,000 teachers during covid, they ALL need to go.
