What Chicago needs is not part-time, untrained Guardsmen, but an expanded federal law-enforcement footprint — with the most violent and habitual offenders prosecuted under tougher federal statutes. If cooperation is resisted, the U.S. Department of Justice should be prepared to impose its own public safety consent decree.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.
