Charge anyone in Cook County or for that fact Illinois and with the SAFET nonsense chances are the culprits will walk out with no cash bail, a promise to appear, maybe an ankle monitor or an order to be in a residence from 7am to 7pm. Their criminal behavior will continue. Going the federal route means a more serious charge, detention, longer sentences if convicted and placed in a remote prison away from family and friends.

I can’t wait to hear how Pritzker and Johnson spin this as an awful thing they’re doing.

In none of the cases mentioned in the article are people being prosecuted for committing crimes which have victims. They may have committed such crimes, but the charges are “possession” or “sale.”
I wish the article had provided some context from the State’s Attorney.

Aside from the fact that possession of firearms by some is illegal and the unlawful sale of them is likewise, both are pieces of the dangerous out of control gun crimes puzzle. That isn’t even considering what charges were brought in the first place and plead down to lesser charges. A good example is the man recently sentenced for “ unlawful discharge of a weapon into a vehicle “ after shooting and seriously injuring a woman in a car, down from the original charge of “ attempted murder “ which in fact is was.

The “victims” you’re looking for in vain are the people who now won’t be shot with the weapons and ammunition confiscated in these cases, and which would have been sold if these perps hadn’t been taken off the street..
