Most of the proposed $16.6 billion 2026 budget is not controversial. The stalemate between Johnson and various factions of the City Council comes down to a few key issues, especially the proposed corporate head tax.

What’s the big deal here? Let the employees pay the head tax. Also tax all municipal employees.

They will either way. The head tax would come out to around 20 cents an hour for a full time employee. Any business would just factor that cost into their labor calculations and if they already pay above the minimum wage they will most likely recoup that cost by paying their employee 20 cents an hour less.

The company’s need to show it on the pay stub and not hide the tax. Let the voter know who’s taking their money.
