Chicago battling safety perception despite preliminary police data showing 60-year low for homicides – ABC7 (Chicago)

"We need to feel safe," said Anthony Riccio, Monterrey Security Director of Public Safety. "The numbers are one thing, but it's how you feel when you walk out of your house or when you're driving down the street that's really important as well."

Crime rates rise and fall and politicians have zero impact on the crime rate. Just published the other day that the City of Rockford had the lowest murders in 20yrs. Coincidence, or just a trend that is happening nationwide. How many gang members have left due to immigration enforcement and have had an impact on crime? For some real reporting about crime visit CWBCHICAGO.COM and read the horror stories about crime, criminals, a failed court system and other interesting info that the lame stream media doesn’t report

If you still don’t feel safe walking out of your house or driving down a street in Chicago, maybe, just maybe, those crime statistics showing such significant reductions are bogus.

Homicides are at 60 year lows but other crime is not. I was never really at risk of being murdered in Chicago but the risk of being lit on fire or assaulted on a city street is the same or higher.

I do not feel safe in the city. I would never ride public transportation.

There is a public safety issue. Could it be that lowering of crime statistics are not the result of lower crime, but of not reporting crime, not responding to crime, downgrading charges, dismissing charges, or just not charging criminals?

To quote Bob Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited”: “… yes, I think it can be very easily done.”

Keep your head on a swivel. Be aware of your surroundings . Don’t go here or there at night. Stay off of public transportation. Don’t wear jewelry, nice sneakers, a watch or carry your phone. But feel safe in CHI, crime is down! Got it?
