When Criminal Histories Stop Mattering, Public Safety Suffers – The Memo

"Illinois has added another layer to this debate with the Clean Slate Act, which significantly expands the automatic sealing of criminal records. ... Judges and prosecutors are left with incomplete pictures when making decisions about detention, bond conditions, and sentencing. You cannot make sound public safety decisions with incomplete information."

I wonder what Illinois politicians would think of a “Clean Slate Act” for let’s say the disciplinary records of Chicago police officers? I bet politicians would come up with a thousand reasons not to do this…but for actual convicted criminals?

I’m posting too much but I want to add something here. If you hire a maid or a cleaning service or a babysitter, do a complete background check and do not rely on the maid service website or just the recommendation of a friend. When you let someone into your home, they might not only steal objects but also try to steal your identity. Sometimes you even have to do a background check on a relative. Important article for me. Criminal histories matter a great deal and if you have access it may save your life. If you have access to a criminal history, it can help confirm your gut feelings that you are dealing with somebody dangerous. It shows patterns and red flags. Sociopaths, gang members and other people with antisocial personality disorder don’t change overnight. Clean Slate Act is really stupid. I have reached my personal breaking point here….I can’t stand the pro-crime world of Pritzker and Brandon Johnson.

I appreciate Chief Weitzel’s continuing efforts to inform us of what is happening with crime, political agendas, state and local laws and with our judges / courts. It appears that the large majority of the people we elect have abandoned any sense of obligation to protect the citizens. Hence we need this information to properly protect ourselves.
