“The biggest lobby in Chicago is not big business,” Tabares said. “It’s the nonprofits, and they’re using the blood flowing in the streets, demanding funding with no strings attached. There is no accountability for how the money is being flown into these programs. No accountability whatsoever.... They are actually paying people for being a gang member—that’s what they’re doing.”
In the early 1900 hundreds shop owners paid protection money so no one would rob or damage their stores. No pay trouble . 20th century Chicago pays criminals to not rob stores or kill someone. The cycle of criminal life

It’s about programs in places like Chicago where former gang members are paid to act as “violence interrupters,” using their credibility to de-escalate conflicts before they turn deadly.
Supporters say it helps reduce shootings, while critics question the long-term impact and accountability of these initiatives.

Hello, Indiana!

It was brought to light well over a decade ago that the city of Chicago was actively engaging with gangs in an article in Chicago magazine. This isn’t news to some of us.

Jumbo’s peacekeepers program, where government pays gang members to reduce crime is an old approach…it’s paying Protection money. Jumbo gave them his lunch money and begged them to be his friends. What a surprise…the gang members took the money and didn’t live up to their side of the deal. We have actual morons running the state.

Sounds like they are selling Plate Glass insurance.
A largely unasked question is becoming glaring: Is Illinois doing all it should to use artificial intelligence to make government cost less and work better? So far, the evidence says no.

This is a must-read so hopefully it is not behind a paywall for the general public.
