What to know about $12B data center planned for Rockford – Rockford Register Star/Yahoo

Region 1 Planning Council Executive Director Mike Dunn Jr. said demand could inevitably drive up electricity costs, but building a data center in Rockford would allow the region to also reap the benefits. That includes more jobs and an expanded tax base that could mean less burden on property owners and more money for schools and parks.

The Illinois people cheer when their power bills rise when they are fed some sort of pablum about saving the planet with solar or a windmill but when faced the possibility of a price hike for private sector jobs they clutch their pearls and decry the benefits. Oh so typical Illinois when many wonder why the vote results are what they are.
