I think the relevant question is, just as with police and fire, how much of the property tax levies in education go to actual instruction? How much is paid to pension obligations? My guess is that the numbers are bleak. My lifelong friend is a retired 30 year 3rd grade teacher in the NW suburbs. A great teacher, and even those inclined in my suburb of my youth where she lives to make snarky comments about retiring at 55 with a 100k pension concede she was a great teacher in an absolutely crucial grade. Nothing will change until the people demand it or
insolvency and the wolves are at the door step.
The shit will hit the fan in Chicago first that
will cause the idiots in Springfield to take notice
both will look east to Washington for the massive
bailout but all that will come is “ drop dead”.
